APT Korea 2017: Tyler Tan & Iori Yogo Win Side Events

The inaugural APT Korea Incheon 2017 is currently being hosted at the Paradise City Incheon in South Korea. The series commenced on August 12th and will run till August 20th.

The series has already crowned two champions. While Singapore’s Tyler Tan won the Ante Up for Charity banking ₩2,640,000 ($2,300 approx.), reigning APT Player of the Year champion Iori Yogo won the Welcome Event for ₩7,604,000 ($6,600 approx.).

 

Ante Up for Charity Event

The event attracted 33 runners, each generously contributing the ₩300,000 buy-in. A total of ₩9,900,000 was pooled in with ₩3,300,000 generated for the Dicha Hill Children’s Home, an orphanage in Korea for the abandoned and orphaned youth. The remaining ₩6,600,000 was distributed among the top five players.

Singapore’s Tyler Tan bested the field pocketing the largest portion of ₩2,640,000 and of course, the event trophy.

Prior to his victory, Tan was seen tanking for a very long time during the bubble round. He was running second in chips and was being pushed all in on a three-bet by the chip leader Watanabe Takahisa. The clock was eventually called on Tan and on the last second, he opted to put himself at risk and opened up against Takahisa’s . With the board running , Tan landed a big double up. Several hands later, he delivered the bubble and increased further.

At the money round, China’s Tang Jia began flexing his muscles and eliminated the next three players, Zhao Weibao (5th), Kijima Yosuke (4th), and Watanabe Takahisa. Takahisa’s failed against Jia’s as the board opened the .

Jia started the heads-up battle with a 2:1 chips advantage against Tan, however, the eventual champion won the majority of the hands played between them and shipped it at the end with his pocket nines defeating Jia’s ace-eight.

Welcome Event

The Welcome Event attracted a total of 96 players to take the prize pool to ₩27,936,000.

There is a reason Iori Yogo is the reigning APT Player of the Year champion and he demonstrated exactly why in this event. Yogo entered the final table running second in command and went on to demolish the field, eliminating six of his opponents to pocket the ₩7,604,000 ($6,600 approx.) first place purse.

 

Final Table Recap

The first elimination of the 8-handed affair was Jeremy Alan Graves. The eventual champion – Yogo then went on an elimination spree bulldozing his way through the field.

Short-stacked Yam Chun Ho Edward was his first victim followed by the only female player at the table Aya Ryoke.

Dave Shepherd and Genki Nakano also met the same fate, unable to get past the pro to quickly join the others at the rail. By this point, Yogo had amassed well over half the chips in play.

Throughout the day, one of the players unable to muster up any momentum was Zhou Hongming. On his final stand, he challenged Yogo with a three-bet shove, but like the others before him, the result was not to his favor. Yogo turned up against his and showed the doors to Hongming to set up the final duel against American player Eric Ahn.

Yogo had a huge advantage, up nearly 2.5:1 in chips. After a series of exchanges and no big dents to Yogo’s stack, the final hand was delivered. Ahn three-bet shoved holding and Yogo snap-called with . The board opened the and Yogo took it all.
