APT Macau 2017: Hung Chow, Bobby Soon, Ben Gur & Seitaro Aso Win Side Events; Shravan Chhabria Final Tables Main Event

Team India has been putting up consistent performances all across the globe and our trailblazing run in the eastern hemisphere continued with Jaydeep Dawer, Zarvan Tumboli and Nishant Sharma make it in the money in the APT Macau 2017 Main Event. Dawer hit the rail in 10th place for HK$53,100 (~₹4.38 Lakhs), Tumboli exited in 12th place for HK$50,000 (~₹4.13 Lakhs) while Sharma went out at 18th place with HK$37,700 (~₹3.11 Lakhs) in prize money.

Shravan Chhabria is the lone Indian still in contention in the Main Event and will return for the final day tomorrow as the second shortest stack among the eight finalists with 367,000 in chips.

The latest side event winners to be crowned these past few days were Hung Chow, Bobby Soon, Ben Gur and Seitaro Aso.

Main Event

The APT Main Event attracted a total of 118 players (44 on Day 1A and 74 for Day 1B) with each ponying up the HK$19,800 buy-in taking the prize pool to a massive HK$2,039,000.

The top 18 players are set to take home a share of the prize money with the eventual winner assured HK$521,000 along with the exclusive APT Championship Ring.

Day 1A saw Malaysia’s Choong Kian Weng bag the chip lead with 224,400 in chips. China’s Yang Song emerged the chip leader on Day 1B and took the overall lead going into Day 2 with his stack of 241,300.

The first flight i.e. Day 1A saw 26 survivors while Day 1B saw 49 players making to the Day 2.

 

Day 2

The 75 survivors returned the next day and when the dust settled for the day only 20 players remained.

Weng dominated the play all throughout and bagged a massive 852,000 in chips to take the overall chip lead going into Day 3.

Weng never looked at risk and consistently built his stack through the course of the day. One of the largest pots he won was in the seventh hour against Jaydeep Dawer. The action saw three players in the hand with the board open . Weng bet 20,500 and Dawer called while the third player folded. The river completed the board and Choong fired another bullet of 37,000 with and Dawer snap-called tabling .

On the last level of play, Weng managed to grab another big pot, courtesy the opening event champion Zarvan Tumboli. Tumboli opened to 16,000 only to see Weng 3-bet to 46,000 and Tumboli called. The flop opened the , Weng bet 35,000 and Tumboli called to see the turn . Weng fired out another big bet of 83,000 and Tumboli called. On the river both players checked and Weng took down the pot tabling pocket queens.

In addition to the leader, two-time APT Main Event champion Henrik Tollefsen also survived the day while past champions Vietnam’s Linh Tran and Huu Dung Nguyen were among those who hit the rails.

The day saw five Indians surviving the day with Zarvan Tumboli in 10th place bagging 246,000 chips, Shravan Chhabria in 15th place (137,000), Vinod Megalmani at 17th place with 102,000, Nishant Sharma at 18th place with 80,000 and Jaydeep Dawer with 69,000 chips.

 

Day 3

Vinod Megalmani had a crazy run on Day 2 but was the first to go out on Day 3. He shoved on the very first hand of the day holding and got one caller in Dang Van Hien who tabled . The board bricked out and Megalmani went out at 20th place.

The money bubble burst with the next elimination in Wang Bin who was insured with bubble protection and gets a free seat to the next APT Main Event of the same value or has an option to exchange it for APT credits.

India’s Nishant Sharma was the first elimination in the money and took the 18th spot for HK$37,700 (~₹3.11 Lakhs). He three-bet all in on top over Saul Oliver’s 20,000 raise holding and Oliver tossed in the chips tabling . Sharma received no help on the board as Oliver hit two pairs and took down the pot eliminating Sharma in 18th place.

Dawer and Chhabria were both sitting on the same table and managed to double up in quick succession.

Other notable eliminations of the day were Wu Kui Song (17th place), Michael Soyza (14th place) and Zixiao Zhang (13th place).

The Opening event HK$300K Guaranteed champion Zarvan Tumboli`s deep run in the Main Event came to an end in 12th place. On his last hand, Tumboli moved all-in holding and the big stacked Saul Oliver called with . Oliver hit a runner-runner flush against Tumboli’s two pairs and the latter exited the Main Event with HK$50,000 (~₹4.13 Lakhs)

The unofficial final table of 10 players commenced after Wang Ye’s elimination and the first one out thereafter was India’s Jaydeep Dawer, courtesy a cooler by Kilian Loeffler. Dawer bet 25,000 to see Loeffler 3-betting it to 60,000. Dawer shoved holding and Loeffler immediately called with . The board threw no surprises and Dawer hit the rail in 10th place for HK$53,100 (~₹4.38 Lakhs).

The next elimination was seen in two-time APT Main Event champion Henrik Tollefsen whose elimination set the official 8-handed final table. The eight finalists have bagged their chips and will return tomorrow to play down to a winner.

Shravan Chhabria is the lone Indian still in contention and bagged the second shortest stack of 367,000 while Kilian Loeffler topped the charts with 1,163,000 in chips.

NLH One Day Event 2

The NLH One Day Event 2 attracted 40 runners who each ponied up the HK$2,200 buy-in to create a total prize pool of HK$77,600 with the top five places making in the money.

Unlike the first version of this event, the pace of eliminations was much faster this time around with a bunch of notables hitting the rail early.

Even on the 10-handed final table, the pace didn’t slow down until the money bubble and eventually an Indian player, who was the sole Indian challenger left in contention went out as the last player without cashing.

Lok Wai Li had a sizeable chip lead when he entered the final table but progressively lost his stack eventually settling for a fifth-place finish followed by Thailand’s Paphawin Laodee, courtesy the eventual champion Chow.

Chow then went on to eliminated Hong Kong based Alan Wu in third place and started the heads-up battle against Guang Lun Huang with a massive 10:1 chip lead.

Despite Huang scoring double up followed by a few small pots, Chow made short work of his opponent with his flush busting the of Huang on the board .

WLS Deep Stack Turbo Event

The first Deep Stack Turbo event of APT Macau 2017 powered by WeLoveSport.com registered 42 hopefuls taking the prize pool to HK$40,700 with the top five finishers making in the money.

Outlasting them all was Malaysia based Bobby Soon who defeated Ireland’s Danny McDonagh in the heads-up battle to claim the trophy along with HK$16,200 in prize money.

No Limit Hold’em 1

The No Limit Hold’em 1 event attracted a total of 40 runners that created a sumptuous prize pool of HK$155,200. Besting them all was Israel’s Ben Gur who eliminated a slew of contenders before defeating China’s Guangrui Ming in the heads-up battle to take down the title along with HK$51,200 for his first-place finish following a three-way deal.

Deep Stack Turbo 1

The Deep Stack Turbo 1 saw a crazy card rush for Seitaro Aso who took down a series of pots by shoving a number of times on the final table and went from being the smallest stack to the eventual champion.

Down to three-handed came a hand where all three were on their backs. Aso had while Feng Jiao Wang tabled and short stacked Gan Soon Ann showed . Ann managed to take down the hand and scored a massive triple up while Aso was left crippled after the hand.

What happened next can be termed as a borderline dream for any poker player as Aso decided to move all his chips in the middle without event looking at his cards three times in a row and successfully got a double up each time.

Aso then went on to eliminate Gan in third place and after several hands in the heads-up battle he took it all. He shoved with and defeated Wang’s taking down the title along with HK$14,400 for his first place purse.

“Finally! It’s been a long time”, said the proud winner after his remarkable victory!
