Chris Hunichen Ships 2017 Caribbean Poker Party $25,500 Super High Roller For $400,000

The 2017 Caribbean Poker Party $25,500 MILLIONS Super High Roller event hosted at the Melia Caribe Tropical resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic attracted a total of 43 entries generating a total prize pool of $1,042,750.

After two days of grueling action, American born pro Chris Hunichen (cover image) emerged victorious to win the $400,000 top prize. Hunichen now calls Costa Rica his home and has nearly $2.2 million in career live tournament winnings.

The field was undoubtedly star-studded and the unfortunate ones who couldn’t make the cut for Day 2 included Fedor Holz, Stephen Chidwick, Steve O’Dwyer, Stefan Schillhabel, David Peters, Kristen Bicknell, Roberto Romanello, and Joao Simao.

Alex Foxen started the nine-handed final table with the chip lead but found himself on the wrong side of a cooler and came down to less than 10 big blinds. Shortly thereafter he went out on the money bubble.

The play on Day 1 ended after reaching the final six players.

When the last six players returned on the final day, there was some high-octane action at display and the first to exit the table was Germany’s Steffen Sontheimer.

Just moments later, Brazil`s Rafael Moraes busted after he shoved all in with pocket fours and was called by Sam Trickett’s ace-jack suited. Trickett flopped two pair and Moraes exited in fifth place.

Trickett held half the chips in play when four-handed play began but gradually lost his lead after a monster 3-way pot. Short stack Adrain Mateos, eventual champion Hunichen and Trickett, all three players got their chips in. Mateos tabled , Trickett had and Hunichen held the best hand with . The board changed nothing and Mateos was eliminated in fourth place while Trickett was left crippled.

Trickett’s journey ended in the very next hand after he shoved all in with and came up against Hunichen’s . Hunichen flopped a pair on the board railing Trickett in third place.

Hunichen started the heads-up match against Sam Greenwood with a three-to-one chip advantage and never even gave his opponent a fighting chance. In the last hand of the event, Hunichen got all of his chips in the middle holding and he got the call from Greenwood who tabled . The board completed a straight for Hunichen who took down the hand and the title!
