There is a reason why some players are called legends as proved by high roller specialist Steve O’Dwyer, who took down his eighth title in an event with a buy-in of at least $50,000 after winning the €50,000 Single-Day High Roller at the 2018 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo©Casino EPT for €676,300.

This is O’Dwyer’s second PokerStars High Roller title this year – he won the $50,000 High Roller at PCA 2018 for $769,500 in January 2018.

Another champion crowned at the series was Børge Sandsgaard, who took down the €330 EPT Cup after cracking a heads-up deal with Jose Astima. Notably, both players decided to stop the play after the deal, and Sandsgaard was declared the official winner and he took home €47,000 for his efforts.

€50,000 Single-Day High Roller

Steve O’Dwyer added €676,300 to his already impressive poker resume for besting the 41-entry field.

The event was largely a preflop shove fest as featured a single re-entry option and 30-minute levels. The final table stacks consistently hovered around 15 big blinds.

“That was one of the most absurd final tables I’ve ever played,” O’Dwyer said afterwards. “Luckily, I ran really hot all in. Made some good reads… and probably some bad plays. That’s poker.”

Sam Greenwood bubbled the tournament after he shoved with and Nick Petrangelo called with . The board ran the and with that, Greenwood was out.

Final Table Recap

The first elimination in the money came after almost two hours of play with Rainer Kempe falling out. Kempe shoved with and Steffen Sontheimer reshipped with . The board spread out and Sontheimer took down the pot eliminating Kempe in the process.

Next up, Daniel Dvoress exited in fifth place. Dvoress first lost a big pot to become extremely short and then went on to survive for a few hands until his failed to hold on against the of Justin Bonomo as the latter flopped a straight.

Incidentally, Bonomo was the next casualty after he jammed with and got called by Steve O’Dwyer’s . The community spread out and Bonomo hit the rail in fourth place.

Steffen Sontheimer’s run ended next when Nick Petrangelo shoved with and Sontheimer called with . The board ran the and Petrangelo picked up the pot and went into heads-up battle against O’Dwyer with the chip lead.

In a massive hand, O’Dwyer got things under control. Petrangelo opened and O’Dwyer called to see the flop . O’Dwyer check-called a bet from Petrangelo and got to the turn . Petrangelo bet again, O’Dwyer called and the river completed the board. Petrangelo decided to jam this time and O’Dwyer went into a tank and used two-time extensions.

Why do I think you’re full of shit?” he asked. “OK, let’s see it.” he said and called to hear “you got it” from the other end.

The last hand saw O’Dwyer’s dominating Petrangelo’s and just like that O’Dwyer was crowned champion!

€330 EPT Cup

Norwegian, Børge Sandsgaard won the €330 EPT Cup and claimed his second trophy in two years after outlasting a massive field of 1,057 entries, who came from four starting days. Sandsgaard received €47,000 for his victory after making a deal heads-up with Jose Astima, where the latter took home €42,000.

“I never get excited,” Sandsgaard said post the win. “There’s something wrong with me. I don’t get excited, so I don’t get nervous.”

The final day of the event started with 158 survivors, who were all in the money after surviving one of the four Day 1’s. With an average stack of just 20 big blinds and 30-minute levels, it just took five hours for the field to converge to a nine-handed final table.

Final Table Recap

The action was fierce and replicated the trend before the final table was set as the players kept hitting the rail one after other.

The first to bow out was Stephen Foster while Patrick Cohen followed him shortly afterwards. Cohen’s pocket fours couldn’t beat the eventual champion Sandsgaard’s pocket aces and the former hit the rail at eighth place.

Kevin Enjalbert was the next to fall as his king-queen couldn’t beat Hugo Basin’s jack-ten as the latter hit a jack on the flop.

Benoit Alziany was relegated to the rails next by Sandsgaard, who then went on to scalp Giovanni Rosadoni in fifth place.

The eventual runner up finisher Astima was not very active till this point and then he got in on the action and busted Hugo Basin in fourth place. Basin jammed with king-jack and Astima called off with queen-jack. Astima paired his queen on the flop to end Basin’s run.

Enzo Vitale had got enough pay jumps having lasted the final table with a very short stack. His luck finally ran out when his ace-king couldn’t outmatch Sandsgaard’s .

With that, the heads-up battle was set and the duo – Astima and Sandsgaard immediately saw the numbers, agreed to a deal and decided not to play heads-up anymore. Just like that, Børge Sandsgaard was declared the champion!
