27-year-old Jay Lee (cover image) had mere $10,000 in cashes to his name but all of that changed when he topped a strong field of 924 runners at the WPT Choctaw $3,700 Main Event to emerge as the surprised champion, banking $593,173 in prize money.

Lee who until recently worked as a food delivery driver in his native city Austin, Texas scored his largest career cash by far, with his previous top score coming from his 147th-place finish at the 2016 WSOP ‘Millionaire Maker’ event for $7,589.

Lee expressed his feelings post the event, “It’s amazing. Cooler hands after cooler hands, but you know, it’s a great feeling. A lot of ups and downs and a lot of happy at the end.”

The event saw the top 99 places making it in the money and a few notables who missed the final table were Andy Philachack, Joe Kuether, Aaron Mermelstein, David Peters, Darren Elias, Brian Campanello and Blair Hinkle.

Final Table Recap

Lee began the final table third in chips and sort of just hung around for the first half as Eric Bunch and Paul Fisher exited in sixth and fifth place respectively.

Lee then won a hand against Michael Stashin, who hit the rail in fourth place.

The three-handed play had its element of drama that saw several huge pots with massive swings. Ultimately the roller coaster ride ended when Lee eliminated Josh Kay at third place to set up the heads-up match.

Lee started the heads-up play with a 3:2 chip advantage against his rival Jeb Hutton and sealed the title in just ten hands.

The final hand of the event saw Hutton raising to 550,000 while Lee called. The flop got checked around with both players seeing the turn . Both checked once again to see the completing the board. Lee bet 750,000 and Hutton 3-bet it to 2,000,000 only to see Lee announcing all-in with for a flopped full house. Hutton made the call tabling for a flush and took the runners up spot.
