The WPTDeepStacks Jacksonville $1,500 Main Event recently concluded after finding its champion in Georgia-based Jonathan Cronin (cover image) who claimed the top prize of $107,386 for navigating through a field of 372 runners. The event surpassed its advertised guarantee of $300,000 easily as the total prize pool amounted to just over $500,000 with the top 47 places making it in the money.

Cronin had about $75,000 in cashes before this score and post his win, he said, “Right now, it feels amazing. It hasn’t quite hit yet, but it’s getting there, it’s definitely getting there. I’ve had a lot of great tournaments, a lot of great runs, but this definitely tops all of them.”

Notables who managed to make it into the money but fell shy of making it to the final table included Ryan Jones, David Prociak and five-time Circuit ring winner Loni Harwood.

Final Table Recap

First up, short stacks Ashley Brown and Scott Hall went down in ninth and eighth place respectively followed by Luke Graham who settled at seventh place.

The eventual champion Cronin had a swingy tournament ride and slipped down to less than 15 big blinds at one point but found aces in one hand against Ben Scrogins’s ace-queen. Post the hand Scrogins was left with crumbs and hit the rail soon thereafter.

Eric Chastain eventually came down to under 10 big blinds and his were dominated by Cronin’s to send the former packing in fifth place.

Adam Shuman then busted Jimmy Ilanlou in fourth place and shortly thereafter won a big pot with queens against Mario Oliveira’s . Left short-stacked, Oliveira busted in third and with that the heads-up match between Cronin and Shuman began with the latter in the lead with 5.7 million against the eventual champions’ 3.5 million.

Cronin managed to take the lead but soon lost it all only to come right back to square one and slowly but surely grinded his way up again. The last hand of the event saw Cronin shoving with pocket kings against Shuman’s ace-ten, and the former took down the title on the blank board.
