We begin this edition of our PokerGuru 3-Bet with news from PokerStars, which has again removed micro-stakes games, this time for Romania. Our second story is about Dave ‘El Blondie’ Colclough, a UK pro who passed away on October 18. The third is a tournament report from the World Poker Tour (WPT) National Remo, won by French player Christophe Bouziane.

Romanians to Miss Micro-stakes Games at PokerStars

Starting early October, PokerStars has removed micro-stakes game products from its Romanian client. Players in the country share an international liquidity pool at the site’s dot-ro client, which is a separate domain, allowing PokerStars to change offerings at each one.

The first to go were the $0.01/$0.02 zoom poker games, followed by all $/€/£0.01/$/€/£0.02 pot-limit and no-limit ring-games.

Hereon, micro-stakes players will be forced to play at the higher $/€/£0.02/$/€/£0.05 stakes and will also be liable to pay higher rake. The earlier micro-stakes games had a rake of 3.3% to 3.5%. But the higher stakes games will carry a rake of 3.9% and 4.15% for the $1/€0.75/£0.60 stakes, if there are a minimum of five players at the table.

In June, PokerStars had done much the same thing in Belgium, removing the micro-stakes games for the country-specific client. In response to a player query, the company had stated that it was being done on a trial basis.

Looking forward it would not be surprising to find PokerStars removing micro-stakes games at all its other global sites, completely eliminating the offering. It s expected that the site would next target the markets of the United Kingdom, Denmark, Belgium and Estonia.
