The 2017 World Series of Poker Europe that was held at King's Casino, Rozvadov has come to a close with Spain’s Marti Roca De Torres (cover image) emerging as the Main Event champion.

Torres defeated Italy’s Gianluca Speranza after an extensive heads-up battle that lasted around four hours. Making this victory even sweeter for De Torres was the fact that he had entered the tournament through a €220 satellite on and pocketed an astonishing €1,115,207 for his finish along with his first WSOP bracelet.

The Main Event guaranteed a massive €5,000,000 in prize money and that amount was easily crushed as 529 hopefuls ponied up the €10,350 buy-in across two starting days.

The money bubble burst on Day 3 of the event with the top 80 finishers making it in the money.

Among those who managed to cash in the event but failed to make the final table included Kevin MacPhee (10th place - €74,737), Marc MacDonnell (11th place - €58,455), Kristen Bicknell (18th place - €31,377), Rainer Kempe (22nd place - €31,377), Anthony Zinno (24th place - €31,377), Maria Lampropulos (33rd place - €22,895), Mike Leah (39th place - €22,895), David Peters (44th place - €20,175), Evgeny Kafelnikov (45th place - €20,175), Philipp Gruissem (47th place - €20,175), Pierre Neuville (53rd place - €18,162), William Kassouf (64th place - €16,710), Kilian Kramer (67th place - €15,721), Matas Cimbolas (71st place - €15,721) and Dominik Panka (76th place - €15,131).

Final Day Recap

Action started off with a bang and two eliminations were witnessed in the same hand that saw a dramatic three-way all that sent both Maria Ho and Niall Farrell packing. The hand in question saw Ho moving all-in with ace-jack and the eventual champion De Torres just called from the small blind with pocket aces. Farrell in the big blind moved all in over the top with pocket kings and Roca De Torres snap-called to take down the pot as well as an overwhelming chip lead.

Down to four players, UK’s Robert Bickley won almost a dozen all-in showdowns before he got short and finally exited the event. On his final hand of the tournament, Bickley jammed with card 2card 2 and Mathijs Jonkers called with card 1card 1. Jonkers rail went wild as the board opened card 1card 3card 2card 1card 1.

Incidentally, the Dutchman Mathijs Jonkers who was going strong in the event hit the rails next in third place. The eventual runner up Gianluca Speranza opened with card 1card 1 and Jonkers moved all in with card 3card 3. Speranza called off and won the hand on the board card 1card 1card 3card 1card 2.

Heads-up kicked off with Gianluca Speranza starting with a three-to-one advantage and after four hours of grueling action, De Torres managed to pull off a spectacular victory in back-to-back hands. On the first hand,De Torres moved all in with card 3card 1 and Speranza called with card 3card 2. De Torres spiked a set on the board card 3card 2card 3card 3card 1 and took down the huge pot making Speranza short. In the very next hand, Speranza jammed with card 1card 2 and De Torres called tabling card 3card 2. The board opened card 1card 3card 3card 2card 1 crowning Torres the champion!
