If you’ve never played Omaha poker before you probably will have a hard time figuring out the hands on the showdown, that’s why you first have to learn the basic rules of Omaha Poker by reading the guide below:

Rules of Omaha Poker

If you’ve just familiarized yourself with the basic Texas Hold’em poker rules, or you already understand how to run and play poker online games, you’ll find the rules of Omaha poker to be very similar to Texas Hold ’em. The game play however is very different, mainly due to that every player is dealt four cards in Omaha, instead of two in Hold’em. Of the four cards you are only allowed to use two to make a five card poker hand at showdown.

How to make a hand in Omaha

With four cards available to you the chances of making a straight, flush, full house or better significantly improves and this is one of the reasons that Omaha is such an action game.

Your Hand The Board

The best five card poker hand you can make here is – a nine high straight, because you can only use two cards from your hand and three from the board. In Hold’em it’s likely that someone has made a flush on this board and due to the many possible combinations in Omaha your straight will be beat fairly often when there is a three card flush on the board.

The other rules and game play are just the same as the Texas Hold’em poker rules, although Texas Hold’em is usually played as No-Limit, and Omaha with Pot Limit betting rules.
